The foundation of the town of La Goulette is dated to the conquest of Hassan Ibn Noomane. The Kasbah fortress was built in 1535 by Charles I of Spain but was captured by the Ottoman Turks in 1574. La Goulette links
the Gulf of Tunis and Lake Tunis, which gave the position and role of
city a civilizational dimension whose importance is confirmed during the 18th and 19th century and especially during the protectorate period during which La
Goulette has become a center of economic, political and military.

Today La Goulette occupies the same position it has enjoyed in times past. La Goulette is an important modern passenger and cargo port.
La Goulette is placed approximately 10 km to East from Tunis Carthage International Airport, 14 km to North-East from the capital of Tunis. La Goulette is connected with the capital and major cities in the region by subway TGM and wide network of bus routes. |
